Geographical Focus

SAFIC has a broad mandate to look at opportunities across Sub-Saharan Africa. However, the firm’s immediate investment strategy focuses on the WAEMU (Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Guinea-Bissau) and CEMAC (Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, CAR) sub-regions.

Investment Philosophy

Primarily focused on West and Central Africa, SAFIC invests in privately owned companies with a strong track record and competent management, and a strong potential for growth. Depending on circumstances, SAFIC will invest with or without operating control, actively participating in the crafting of the business strategy, financial planning and structuring, as well as business development.

SAFIC’s interventions are generally founded on four basic principles:

Buy-in at the right price

Part of the value creation for our shareholders is by ensuring we do not overpay for an investment opportunity

Earnings sustainability and growth

Companies we partner with must have demonstrated earnings viability with great prospects for growth sustainability, alone or with a strategic partner;

Strong management

We typically seek to partner with businesses that are well run, with knowledgeable and experienced management;

Value addition

SAFIC has a culture of working actively to create shareholder value, and as such we generally pursue transactions that afford us the opportunity to add value immediately.

While we focus on existing businesses, as economic development agents, we keep assessing the direction of tomorrow’s business. SAFIC also invests in turnaround situations and alongside promoters in young, rapidly growing companies that have the potential to develop into significant economic contributors and tap into export markets.
